FAQS or FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

We often have the following questions about our training services.

Do I need to have previous culinary experience before taking your courses?

For our 3 hour and 1 week courses you do not need any prior training.  For our Advanced courses we recommend that students have prior culinary training or at a mid-to-high level home cook.

What language are courses taught in?

All courses, whether in person or online, are taught in English. We can offer and provide Spanish translation as needed. 

Does my tuition include housing?

Your tuition does not include housing. Students are required to find their own accommodations. Once you have booked your course we can provide you options that meet your budget requirements.

I'm not looking to be a professional chef. Are these courses right for me?

You can take our courses for fun, learning, or to improve your professional career. Please understand however that a majority of students coming are wanting to improve their current culinary or chef skills. 

How much time do we spend in the classroom?

  • Our 3 hour weekend courses are on Saturdays from 10am-1pm. 
  • Our 1 week long classes are Monday through Friday for 3-4 hours per day starting at 10am.
  • Our 2 week Advanced courses are 6 hours per day Monday-Friday and run from 10am-1pm and then 1:30pm-5pm.  Weekends are free time.  

Is food included in my tuition?

Yes, there will be many tasting events that are included in your tuition fee. All dishes that you prepare in class may also be taken with you as you leave the academy.

What is the class size?

Our maximum class size in person is 12 people. Online class size we allow up to 100 people. 

How do I enroll for a course?

Simply click on the course you want to attend, select the dates and purchase online.

When should I enroll?

Enrollment is on a first come first serve basis. Due to the popularity of our academy our classes tend to fill quickly. We recommend enrolling at least two months before your onsite course start date and at least one month before your online course start date.  

Will recipes be modified to accommodate my food allergy?

While we teach about food allergies we are not an academy that is certified Gluten Free, Nut Free, etc. We are happy to suggest modifications to recipes that you can do outside of class to suit dietary requirements.  

What should I bring to class?

You are required to wear black t-shirt, black pants, closed toed shoes and you must wear your hair tied up. You are required to bring your notebook computer, pad, or multimedia phone with you. We do most all course and recipe communication by private Facebook Groups and email. Fiber Optic Internet access is provided. Students are also welcome to bring cameras to the Academy to take photos of their finished work, but not during production time or class. Video cameras are not permitted in the Academy, and video cannot be taken on your phone at any time. We do however have an onsite/online instructor who records special techniques and recipes for your course that are available to you on your course information. 

How old do I have to be to attend a class?
 
You must be at least 16 years old to attend our onsite and online courses. If you are under the age of 18, you must be accompanied by a guardian or sign have them sign a release agreement.
 
What type of payment methods do you accept?
 
We accept all major credit cards, bank transfers and provide payment plans as needed.
 
Do you offer scholarships?
 
From time to time we do offer partial scholarships.
 
I am an international student. Do you provide student visas?
 
We do not offer student visas. We can provide a letter of acceptance and enrollment that you can use to apply for a normal tourist visa when studying with us. 
 
Will I receive certification for these courses?
 
A Certification of Completion is provided for our 1 Week and 2 Week Advanced Courses if you meet the criteria and pass the exams. 
 
Additional information for the online courses:
 
Are there specific start dates or can I start at any time?
 
There are specific start dates. All online courses start when the corresponding in person course starts. Please reference the course calendar for a list of available start dates. 
 
Are there specific login times or can I do the assignments when it's best for my schedule?
 
There are no required login times each day. Lessons are released Monday through Friday throughout the course, and you can log in to your student portal, access the lessons, and complete the assignments each day when it's best for you.
 
What equipment and ingredients will I need to complete the online courses?
 
Each online course has its own equipment list and ingredient list which is provided to you a week before your course starts for 1 and 2 week courses.
 
Will I receive the same certificate for the online courses as I would for the onsite courses?
 
Yes. The course content is the same for the online courses and the onsite courses.
 
 
How are the online courses structured?
 
The online courses are LIVE videos provided to you in a private Facebook Group, course materials are provided in an interactive online Google Documents format. You will be creating the dishes, taking photos, recording videos of them and uploading them to the student website for the instructors to grade and give feedback.
 
How long will I have to complete the online courses for Certification?
 
For the 1 week online course you have 4 weeks. For 2 week online courses you will have 8 weeks.
 
How many hours per week should I plan to spend on the course material?
 
The online courses are planned for around 3-4 hours for each day of material released. Depending on your own speed and skill level, exact times may vary.
